How long will my job take?
My shop is located in the heart of West Chester. I commit to only five or six customers at a time, so my
turn-around is very fast, four or five weeks. If you are familiar with furniture-refinishing or are a refinisher yourself, you will appreciate the latest finishing and stripping techniques I use at my West Chester, PA location.
Careful Professionalism
Who actually does the work?
In business since 1987, I take great pride in my ability to provide low prices,
fast turn-around and quality product to each and every customer
I service in Chester, Deleware, Montgomery and Philadelphia counties. Right
down to the smallest piece of hardware and the slightest repair, you can
be sure that I will care for your kitchen table, bedroom set, cedar chest,
secretary, high-boy, antique or damaged piece as if it were my very own.
Timely Response
How soon will my furniture be picked up?
Most all of my customers will have their furniture picked up the next day or at
their convienience. While I can't rush the needed time for the refinishing
process such as glue adherence, drying time for stain and the like, I do promise
steady, personal service from the day of pick-up to the day of delivery. I can't afford to
keep your furniture too long. So whether it's a small repair or a complete
rebuilding of that special antique, rest assured I'll work on your furniture
from the time I receive it and return it to you as soon as it's complete.
Pricing
How much will it cost?
It's no surprise that these days mark-up has become the name of
the game in almost every form of
trade and furniture refinishing is no different. All too often, folks
like yourself find themselves paying way too much to have furniture
refinished because the company doing the work has employees to compensate,
expensive shops to pay for and brand new trucks to maintain. I have always
preferred to stay as independent and simple as possible so I could
pass my savings onto you as my customer. I'm sure, if you check around,
you'll see evidence of that savings reflected in my prices.
Your discription of the piece is all we need to give you a firm price on the phone. Yes, We will quote you over the phone and stick to it. This has been reported as one of the most attractive reasons people use HHS Refinishing. We know what we're doing.
The Process
What will you do to my stuff??
Quality refinishing begins with stripping off the old finish by hand, not dipping. Next, surface preparation and
sealing, followed by finish with hand pollished or sprayed product.
Furniture refinishing requires constant, careful attention to detail.
For example, you may not pay too much attention to the dulled
brass hardware on your dresser, the warn veneer on the side of your cedar
chest or the second rate glue job that could be done on the leg of your
dining room chair or table. But attention to these details is my job.
I think about it so you don't have to. Plain and simple.
The Weather
Are you sure my job can be done that fast?
While I do everything in my power to give you back your furniture in
a timely manner, sometimes the
weather just won't cooperate. What does the weather have to do with
my furniture you might ask. Well, imagine taking all your time and
energy for three solid weeks to refinish and repair your grandmother's
solid mahogany dining room suit then taking it outside to dry in
your family's full swimming pool. It won't work very well, will it. This
overdramatic comparison illustrates the affect that humidity can have on
pieces that are wet with stain and often glue and need dry air to dry.
Delivery
Will you carry my furniture from the second floor?
We prefer to pick up furniture from your garage and deliver it back to your garage. Of cource there are times when additional accomedations are made.
Color
Can you make my mohogany desk lighter?
Lighter woods like oak, ash and birch can be stained very well. The naturally darker woods such as mohogany, rosewood, and cherry are better left at their natural tone.
Hardware
What can you do with the hardware?
Most customers just want the hardware cleaned. You may want to order new hardware. Or, we can leave it off and you can look for something later.
Repairs
Can you fix broken furniture?
Yes, most pieces of furniture need some repair. The customer must have the broken parts to restore. HHS does not fabricate parts.
References
Do I know anybody who has used HHS Refinishing?
Most All my customers are in the finer homes of Southern Chester County. It's not unusual for new customers to recognize people they know in my data base.
Paint
What if my furniture is painted?
Taking off paint is a problem for refinishers. Some don't even take that kind of work. HHS recognizes that many cherished pieces are painted. If they are special to our customers, we will accept them with an additional charge.
Other Services
Do you do the inside of the drawers and cabinets?
Furniture interiors are a separate feature. Some customers have asked to have this done as an add-on to the refinishing process.
